[sticky post] Welcome!

Narnia Fic Exchange

The Narnia Fic Exchange is an annual anonymous fic exchange, similar to Secret Santas and other fanwork gift exchanges.

Participants submit a request with prompt ideas such as characters, situations, and themes. The mods match these requests with another participant, who then writes the requested fic. All participants receive a fic based on their request/prompt. The authors are anonymous until all the stories have been posted.

Big Bang Challenge

The Narnia Big Bang Challenge is a longer, non-anonymous challenge for both writers and fan-artists.

A Big Bang is when an author writes a long piece of fic (20k word minimum in this case) and an artist creates a related piece of art. We know not everyone is comfortable with such a long story, so we also offer the option of a Mini Bang with a 10k word minimum and a similarly scaled down art component. There are also prompts available for writers to choose from.

Reminder: Deadline rapidly approaching!

Yes, that's right! The deadline for submissions is tomorrow, August 31st, by midnight. My midnight is eastern time, your midnight may be in a different timezone! That's okay, I'm flexible. If I wake up on September 1st, and your assignment is in, it's all good.

Any questions, please email at narniaficexchange@gmail.com!

Prompts revealed!

Hi everyone!

Just letting you know we're starting Madness a little early. FOR REASONS (mostly due to my convenience *g*).

Anyway, all the prompts can be found here. Feel free to pick one or many, and write treats, which you will then upload to the Madness Collection.

Remember you don't have to participate in Madness if you don't want to! It's not mandatory. By the same token, you don't have to be signed up for the NFE to participate in Madness! You can pick a prompt (as many as you want!) and upload at any time before September 11th -- there's no length requirement, and the only things I ask is that you don't go against the prompter's DNWs, and you don't publish the story anywhere else until after the reveals.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in comments, or shoot me an email: narniaficexchange@gmail.com. And definitely spread the word! If you think there's anyone who might be interested in writing a Narnia fic, tell them to join in! :D

Assignments: SENT!

Yes, finally! Well, still a few days early, but finally to me, since I've been wrestling with them since Sunday. :D

Anyway, you should all have your assigned recipient. If you have not received an email, let me know ASAP, and I'll figure out what went wrong. Remember, your story is due any time before August 31st, at midnight.

Happy writing!

Assignments update!

Hello everyone! I'm generating the assignments, and have run into a problem with AO3. I sent in a support ticket, and as soon as we get this issue corrected, I'll be sending out the assignments. Hopefully even by tonight, which will give you extra writing time!

I'll keep you posted if I run into any other delays.

The Official Pinch-Hitter Post

Please, please, please sign up for pinch-hitting* here. Last year there were a few fics that needed pinch-hitting, and it'll probably happen this round too.

Same rules apply as when signing up for beta duty. You don't have to be a participant in the exchange to be a pinch-hitter, just someone who can turn around a thousand word fic in a short time frame.

*Pinch-hitting is what happens when a writer drops out of the exchange for whatever reason and someone steps up to write the abandoned request. That someone is the pinch-hitter.

This post will be screened. Your name will be added to the pinch-hitter list, and if we need a pinch hitter, you'll receive an email with the prompt details.

NOTE: Because there didn't seem to be an overwhelming opinion on the changes, I made a few tweaks to the schedule. Both collections will be revealed the same day, and the author reveal will be a week later. The prompts for Madness will not be revealed immediately after the assignments go out, as this will give people participating in both more time to work on their assignment, also to stick to the spirit of Madness (writing as many fics as you want in a shorter time frame). Here's the final schedule:

Tag nominations open: July 1st
Signups open: July 12th
Signups close: July 23th
Assignments sent out: by July 29th
Fics due: anytime before August 31st
Prompts Revealed/Madness: August 17th
Main and Madness collections open: September 11th
Authors revealed: September 19th

There will be more posts about exact deadlines, and Madness as we get closer to those dates.

Remember, if you have multiple prompts, you can make multiple (up to five) requests! All your prompts don't have to be in one request. I am mentioning this because last year some people's prompts had more characters than they had requested, because you can only request five characters per request. But if you make more than one request, you can request more characters.

Also, if you are requesting relationships, make sure to request those characters as well! The matching will be done by characters first! If you haven't requested those characters, but want them in a relationship, you're unlikely to be matched on those.

Here is an example of how multiple requests would look...Collapse )

So you can see I had five prompts, so I made five requests. I was able to request more than five characters, because I used the multiple requests. I also requested relationships, AND the characters involved in those relationships.

For those of you who prefer your info on DW, the Narnia Fic Exchange DW feed is here! Thanks to yetanothermask for setting it up.

2016 Tagset

Last call for tagset nominations! You can nominate HERE. I'll update the glossary below with anything that gets nominated by tonight.

QUESTION: If you nominated "Old Dynasty", what did you mean?

Below is a glossary of the freeform tags for this year's exchange. Please remember that you don't need to use them! They are here a) to specify if you want a story about your requested character(s) in a particular setting or dealing with a specific concept and b) for people want world-building fic and don't care who stars. Whether or not you use the freeforms, you should use the text boxes in the sign-up form to explain what you’re looking for.

For example, if I want fic about Susan and Edmund on a diplomatic mission during their reign, I would request Susan&Edmund (relationship) + Susan (character) + Edmund (character) + Golden Age (freeform), and then I would mention the diplomatic mission in the text box. If I want world-building fic about what happened in Bism after everyone went back, I'd request Underground (freeform), with no characters or relationships, and then explain what I'm looking for in the text box.

Collection on AO3

Tag Set

Tag nominations are open now! It will work the same way it did last year, and here's last year's Tag Set to refresh your memory. aurilly will be in charge of tags again, so keep your eyes peeled for some posts from her.

Here is the TENTATIVE schedule for the exchange:

Tag nominations open: July 1st
Signups open: Sometime between July 11th - July 13th (depending on how long it takes to get tags finalized)
Signups close: July 23th - 25th (again, depending on tags)
Assignments sent out: by July 29th
Fics due: anytime before August 31st
Prompts Revealed/Madness: July 30th - September 18th
Main collection opens: September 11th
Madness collection opens: September 18th
Authors revealed: September 19th

Reasons for the tentativeness of this schedule:
1) Getting tags finalized before the assignments go out
2) This year I've split the opening of the collections, as suggested by a participant. You'll have the main collection open for a week, giving you time to read and send feedback, and then the Madness collection will open the following week, with the authors revealed the next day.
3) I want to hear your opinions on that new way of opening collections and revealing authors. If most are in agreement, we'll proceed like that. If you want it changed back to opening the same day, we can go that way too. And if you prefer to wait a week between the collection opens and the author reveals, rather than a day, that can change too.

Keep collection openings split, as on schedule

(If you don't have an LJ account, you can make your opinions known in the comments!)

As usual, Madness is not mandatory, but it's always fun. And if you choose not to participate in the Main Exchange and just in Madness, that's fine!

Obviously the exchange will not be double-blind (as it used to be in years past) and you will know who you are writing for. If people want to write "Dear NFE Writer" letters and post them on LJ/Dreamwidth/Tumblr/wherever, that is fine, but not mandatory! You can put everything you want in your signup, if you like.

In the past, you've been allowed to request crossovers, and fic set in other people's fanverses. You can still do that, but those will have to go in the optional details part of the signup. You cannot request crossovers and fanverses only, though, as your assigned writer may not be familiar with the other fandom/fanverse. So remember to include some canonical requests.

There will also be a box in the offer part of the signup where you, as a writer, can talk about what you like to write, and also put ONE OR TWO dealbreakers of what you can't write (for example, "no incest and I hate Edmund Pevensie"). Bear in mind that it would be extremely unlikely in this exchange for you to say, "I can't write slash" and then get matched to someone who only requests slash. Most participants offer several options of what they want, and I don't see this changing.

Finally: I will be having surgery at some point during the course of this year's exchange, and it's possible that I'll be out of commission when the time comes to open the collections. But fear not, aurilly will be around, and lady_songsmith has volunteered to help out, so nothing should go off course. Thanks to both of them for going the extra mile!

Okay, I think that's it for now. Go forth, nominate, and ask any questions you have and I will try to answer them! You can email me at narniaficexchange@gmail.com too.

Authors revealed!

Both collections have the authors revealed now, and that wraps up the NFE for this year.

Thank you to everyone who participated -- you make the NFE the success it is, with your fabulous stories, and your hard work. Thank you especially to the pinch-hitters who stepped in to write some wonderful fic at the drop of a hat. And thanks to everyone who joined in the Madness Round. That was an extra bit of fun, and I was glad to see so many stories this year.

If you have any suggestions for next year, feel free to leave a comment here, or email me at narniaficexchange@gmail.com

Archive opening tomorrow

Hi everyone! Just to give you an estimated time frame, in case you're still polishing your stories, the archive won't open until tomorrow evening.

This is due to my own real-life stuff going on tomorrow, and to give the pinch-hitters a few more hours to finish up their stories.

I figure I'll open the archives at 6 p.m, eastern time. At 5 p.m., I will post a one-hour warning here in the comm.

If anything changes on my end, I will post an update in the comm with new times, but barring unforeseen circumstances, I'd say 6 p.m.

Can't wait!

UPDATE:

I won't be home until after 6 p.m. eastern time, due to a change in plans. So that will change the time the archives open!

You'll get a one hour warning at 7 p.m., and the archives will open at 8 p.m. So if you were thinking of last minute treats, now's your chance! :D

Good luck on those last minute edits! :D GO GO GO!

Reminder!

Hey everyone! Just a reminder, your stories are due this Sunday, August 23rd, by midnight (that's midnight, your time. As long as your stories are uploaded by Monday morning, I am not bothering with timezones).

If you are writing treats, you have until Saturday, August 29th, because both collections will be revealed on Sunday, August 30th. Not sure of the exact time yet, it will depend on if all stories are ready to go. So I'll definitely give you a one hour warning before I open the collections.

Remember, you post your assigned fic to this collection, and any treats to this collection.

We've had one pinch-hit so far, and it's already been claimed, but check your inboxes this weekend, in case there are more!

If you want to pinch-hit, and you haven't signed up yet, you can email me at narniaficexchange@gmail.com, and I'll add you to the list. Also if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments, or email me.

I'm really looking forward to all the fic this year! Good luck with your stories!

Madness Poll results

Okay, folks, the poll results were in favor of opening up the requests, and giving people a longer time to write treats.

Here's the revised schedule:

NFE 2015 Schedule:

Tag nominations open: June 9th
Signups open: June 24th
Signups close: July 6th
Assignments sent out: by July 12th

Fics due: anytime before August 23rd
Prompts Revealed/Madness: July 18th - August 30th
Collections opens: August 30th
Authors revealed: September 6th

Please remember these things:

People can chose a prompt to write in addition to their assignment. That's important: even if you choose another prompt (or multiple prompts) to treat, you still have to complete your assignment by the due date.

You don't have to participate. Madness and treats are never mandatory.

You don't have to be a participant in the regular exchange to write treats. You'll be writing a treat, but not receiving one.

People can write as many treats as they'd like, and multiple people could write the same prompts.

You can post any treats to the NFE Madness Collection. You'll still have that extra week to write, after all the stories are due, too, and both collections will be revealed on August 30th, and authors revealed on September 6th.

The prompts have all been revealed, and you can find them here! Any treats you write for these prompts should be posted here, in the Madness Collection.

If any of the links aren't working, or you have any questions, feel free to comment here, or to email me at narniaficexchage@gmail.com! Thanks for voting and participating in the NFE, and have fun writing your treats! :D

Madness POLL

Hey folks! I had a couple of people suggest that instead of waiting for the week between the fic due date and reveals, I could open the prompts now and give people extra time to write treats.

This would mean that you'd have a longer time to write treats than just a Madness week. So it would work out for people who aren't fast writers (I count myself among those!) or people who didn't sign up for the exchange, but would still like to participate.

I envision it like this:

I would reveal all prompts ASAP, people could chose a prompt to write in addition to their assignment. That's important: even if you choose another prompt (or multiple prompts) to treat, you still have to complete your assignment by the due date.

You don't have to participate. Madness and treats are never mandatory.

You don't have to be a participant in the regular exchange to write treats. You'd be writing a treat, but not receiving one.

People could write as many treats as they'd like, and multiple people could write the same prompts.

You could post any treats to the NFE Madness Collection. You'd still have that extra week to write, after all the stories are due, too, and both collections will be revealed on August 30th.

Poll #2016790 Madness Poll

Should we reveal prompts before Madness Week and allow extra time for treating?

Yes, change it!
13(92.9%)
No, keep it the same!
1(7.1%)

Any strong feelings of why? (here or in comments)

Thanks for voting! If you don't have an LJ account to vote with, you can comment and I'll take that into consideration!

NOTE: Because there was some confusion about this last year:

Freeform Tags & Glossary

AO3 has a bug that hides the freeform tags in the tagset, so see below for a glossary outlining in broad (and subjective!) terms what each tag means, so that requesters and offerers are generally on the same page.

The tags are broad Narnia-relevant terms and concepts, or really common and broad fic genres. If you don’t have a particular character or pairing in mind, you can use the freeform tags to be matched with someone who’ll write world-building fic. Freeform tags are optional; they are not your prompt. Whether or not you use the freeforms, you should use the text boxes in the sign-up form to explain what kind of story you’re looking for. Some nominated tags were rejected because they were overly specific, or were non-Narnia relevant tropes, preferences or story ideas that should be requested in optional details.

NFE 2015 Tagset Questions

Like last year, this post is to clarify some of the nominations. We’re trying to arrive at a final set of freeform tags that are broad enough to be requestable by multiple people for multiple prompts.

The goal of tags is to make it easier to match participants on broad, Narnia-relevant parameters (ex. canon time periods, locations, magical concepts) or broad genres (ex. AUs, backstory, worldbuilding), even if they don’t have a particular character or pairing in mind. Please remember that your prompt will still be written out in the optional details; the tag doesn't need to encompass it. If you’re requesting specific characters or pairings, you don’t have to request any freeform tags at all! Even if a tag gets rejected, you should still ask for the thing in your optional details.

We’ll post a glossary of the final tag set, with definitions, when sign-ups open.

Tag Set

Tag nominations are open now! It will work the same way it did last year, so you might want to refer back to those posts to refresh your memories when nominating.

Here are the important dates for the exchange:

Tag nominations open: June 9th
Signups open: June 24th
Signups close: July 5th
Assignments sent out: by July 12th
Fics due: anytime before August 23rd
Madness: August 23rd - August 30th
Collections opens: August 30th
Authors revealed: September 6th

These are pretty firm right now. It worked out really well last time for everyone to have more than a month of writing time, so that's back. The collections will open on August 30th, as long as everyone has a story (if we're waiting on pinch-hitters, it will be later than the posted time).

As you can see, I've built a Madness Round into the schedule, since people enjoyed that last year, but it's not mandatory. And if you just want to participate in the Madness Round, that's fine too.

Obviously the exchange will not be double-blind (as it has been in years past) you will know who you are writing for.

There will also be a box in the offer part of the signup where you, as a writer, can talk about what you like to write, and also put ONE OR TWO dealbreakers of what you can't write (for example, "no incest and I hate Edmund Pevensie"). Bear in mind that it would be extremely unusual in this exchange for you to say, "I can't write slash" and then get matched to someone who only requests slash. Most participants offer several options of what they want, and I don't see this changing.

Okay, I think that's it for now. Go forth, nominate, and ask any questions you have and I will try to answer them! You can email at narniaficexchange@gmail.com too.

Admin: The archive will open in 15 minutes

Sorry, it's a little later than planned, but you have 15 minutes to finish any tweaks you have left. The archive will open at 4:15, EST.

Please remember to THANK your author for the story you received. And if you don't receive a story, please let me know RIGHT AWAY.

Admin: Collection opening today!

Hello everyone! You will get your stories today, hooray!

The plan is to open the collection at 4 p.m. EST. This is to give the pinch-hitters some time to do any last minute polishes (and anyone else, I suppose). If something changes and it will be later, I will let you know.

Also, I was going to open the Madness collection on Tuesday, but change of plans! You will have the rest of this week to fill prompts! This is because I was an idiot and didn't reveal the prompts right away, so you all get more days for my stupidity. I will open the Madness collection next Sunday, when the authors are revealed in the NFE 2014 collection. So yay for extra time all around!

I will post another update this afternoon, just to give you a ten minute warning before the collection goes live.

Any questions? Comment here, or email narniaficexchange@gmail.com. Thank you!

ADMIN: Pinch-hits and Madness Round

Hello everyone! We've got some pinch-hitting going on, but hopefully all will be in by Saturday, so the stories can be revealed on Sunday. If not, we'll wait until everyone has a story before going live.

In the meantime, there's Madness while you are waiting! Here's this year's Madness Collection. You can read the rules there. Basically, all you have to do is pick a prompt (or multiple prompts) from here, and then write a fic (as many as you want)! There are no length requirements, this is just fun writing and extra gifts for people.

Thanks to moriwen1 who nudged me that I didn't actually have the prompts revealed. SIGH. Sorry about that. Thanks to all the pinch-hitters, and thanks to everyone who got their stories in on time!

Admin: Reminder, your stories are due TODAY!

Yes, that's right, the deadline has come. All stories must be turned in today, September 20th. I am not worried about timezones - if it's still September 20th when you upload your story, wherever you are, it's fine.

Basically, it just has to be posted to the collection when I wake up tomorrow (and okay, for timezone people, that's 8:00 a.m. EST, so you can do the math *g*).

If you are not going to be able to complete your story, you need to let me know today! If I don't hear from you, the story will go out to the pinch-hit list. There is no penalty for dropping out, as long as you let me know. If you drop out without a word, you may be banned from participating in future exchanges. Default on AO3 or email me at narniaficexchange@gmail.com if you will not be submitting a story today.

Also: while I guarantee that there will be a story for everyone who turned in a story, I do not guarantee that there will be a story for everyone who signed up. So if you signed up, dropped out and did not submit a story, and then your writer also dropped out, I will not send that prompt to the pinch-hitters. The priority is for all people who turned in a story to receive a story. I just want that to be clear, because it always happens at least once or twice in a round.

*************

Madness Round Info

Tomorrow I will be revealing all the prompts on AO3. You can then pick one or many to write! More than one person can pick the same prompt. There will be a second collection on AO3 call NFE Madness 2014. I will link it here tomorrow, so you will know where to upload any madness stories you might write.

These stories will not have any length or beta requirements. They just have to be uploaded before the next Saturday, when I will be opening both the main and the madness collections.

*************

There are sure to be pinch-hits needed, so please watch the comm and your inboxes for pinch-hitting requests.

Good luck with all the last minute editing! And to everyone who has already submitted their stories: you rock! :D

Check in and an announcement!

So, close to deadline! How's everyone doing? I hope well! Thank you to the people who've already uploaded their stories, and keep going the rest of you! I know you can do it!

And in that vein, here's the announcement: due to some unexpected personal stuff that's going on next week, I'm going to be away. So you're getting an extra week to write! Yes, that means your stories are not due tomorrow, they are due the following Saturday, September 20th.

I'm sorry about the last minute change, but these things happen. And hey, if you were ready to submit tomorrow, feel free to still do so! :D

Thank you for understanding, and for all being so great. I really appreciate it! Please let me know if you have any questions, either here, or via email at narniaficexchange@gmail.com.

Check in and a poll!

Hi folks! Just a check-in post to see how everything is going! A few things:

* Reminder that you must upload your fic to A03 by Saturday, September 13th (and thank you to those who have done so already!). Your fic must be complete when you upload it. No placeholders, nothing less than 1000 words.

* If you need a beta, or would like to help someone out, check out our beta post!

* If you would like to sign up to be a pinch-hitter, in case someone drops out, check out our pinch-hitter post!

* If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to comment here, or email to narniaficexchange@gmail.com

Also, let's talk Madness! There will be a week between the deadline and the reveals, and during this period we can have a Madness Round, if there's interest. I will open up the prompts, and you can choose to write one, or as many as you want. There will be no required length, and anyone can participate.

Madness Round?

Yes

No
0(0.0%)

I will probably participate in a Madness Round

Yes

Any specific suggestions for a Madness Round? (you can answer this in comments as well)

Thank you!

Assignments are out!

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay in assignments, but I've had a nasty bug.

You should all have received your assignments - remember, you have been matched on at least one thing you offered/your recipient requested, not all offers/requests.

Happy writing, and remember, your assignment is due September 13!

I don't know if there's any interest in a Madness Round this year, but I will put up a poll tomorrow, and if people would like it, we can have it during the week between assignments due, and the reveal.

Sign Up for the Narnia Fic Exchange 2014

Today is the last day to sign up for the NFE 2014! Signups close tonight at midnight.

You can sign up here!

NOTE: Remember, if you have multiple prompts, you can make multiple (up to five) requests! All your prompts don't have to be in one request. I am mentioning this, because I have noticed some people's prompts have more characters than they have requested, because you can only request five characters per request. But if you make more than one request, you can request more characters.

Also, if you are requesting relationships, make sure to request those characters as well! The matching will be done by characters first! If you haven't requested those characters, but want them in a relationship, you're unlikely to be matched on those.

Here is an example of how this would look:

cut because of images...Collapse )

So you can see I had five prompts, so I made five requests. I was able to request more than five characters, because I used the multiple requests. I also requested relationships, AND the characters involved in those relationships.

I am mentioning this, because you can edit your requests, if you would like! Go here, click on My Sign-up in the left hand column, and you will be taken to your sign up, where you can edit to your hearts content.

You don't have to edit or make changes, if you don't want. I am suggesting this to help ensure you are matched on what you want.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

The Official Pinch-Hitter Post

Please, please, please sign up for pinch-hitting* here. Last year there were a few fics that needed pinch-hitting, and it'll probably happen this round too.

Same rules apply as when signing up for beta duty. You don't have to be a member/participant in the exchange to be a pinch-hitter, just someone who can turn around a thousand word fic in a short time frame.

*Pinch-hitting is what happens when a writer drops out of the exchange for some reason and someone steps up to write the abandoned request. That someone is the pinch-hitter.

This post will be screened and you'll only be contacted, if needed, by the mods.

Tagset Glossary

Below is a glossary outlining in broad (and subjective!) terms what each tag means, so that people are generally on the same page about requesting and offering them. There will definitely be grey areas, so please comment below if you are unsure which one your request falls under. That said, please note that freeform tags are optional. If you don't see one here for what you want, or if your prompt straddles different tags, you don't actually need to worry about it.

The tags will be listed alphabetically in the sign-up form, but I broke them out into groups for the purpose of the glossary. I can also edit this post based on any discussion so that by the time sign-ups open, it's final.

Places/Settings
Archenland: stories set in Archenland or predominantly starring Archenlandian characters, at any time (Aravis counts)
Calormen: stories set in Calormen or predominantly starring Calormene characters, at any time (Aravis counts)
Life Underground: anything set below the Sunlit Lands and/or about its inhabitants
Telmar: anything set in Telmar (could include stories about why they left to invade Narnia); for matching purposes can also include stories about what happened to the Telmarines who left after Prince Caspian, or even how they originally got to Telmar from the South Seas
Setting: England: stories set anywhere and at any time in our world (doesn’t necessarily need to be England); can include ‘Everybody Lives’ scenarios in which the train crash never happened

Narnian World Time Periods
We used the breakouts on the Narnia Wiki. While the periods are defined by what happened in the country of Narnia, stories for these tags can take place anywhere in that world.
Age of Conquest: Birth of Narnia through right before White Witch seizes power
Age of Winter: White Witch’s reign
Golden Age: Pevensies’ reign
Dark Age: Narnia in anarchy
Telmarine Age: Telmarine conquest through right before Caspian X’s coronation
Age of Exploration: Caspian X’s reign (ie. through the last pages of Silver Chair)
Later Ages: Rilian’s reign onwards

Themes
Non-Canon Dimension Travel: stories that play around with the mechanics of inter-dimensional travel (ex. further exploration of the Wood; how or why things like the rings, painting and horn work) or that send characters on world-hopping adventures not covered by the books
The Problem of Susan: defined as you wish
Time Shenanigans: stories that play around with the mechanics of the time lapse/aging issues associated with dimension travel
Narnians In England: stories about Narnian-world natives visiting our world (doesn’t necessarily have to be England)

Genres
Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence: Characters exist in the canon world(s), but something goes differently; someone made a different decision, the villain won, someone was evil, summer never came, etc. This could mean a story about the moment of divergence itself, or anything set after that point/in that "universe." Use the details/prompt to explain the kinds of divergences you’re interested in seeing explored.
Alternate Universe – Different Setting: Characters have always existed in a different scenario (various historical eras, various professions, etc.), but it doesn’t necessarily have to be a mundane, single-world scenario. Use the details/prompts to explain what you’re looking for.
Backstory: Could be for a character or place or concept, to be explained in the details/prompt
Missing Scene: Filling in an episode potentially implied but not made explicit by canon
Worldbuilding: Open-ended, to cover places, eras, concepts, little-known characters, etc. not covered by other tags

Updates!

Hello everyone! Work on the tagset is finally complete. aurilly will be posting an update, with a glossary, so you'll know what tags you're choosing when you sign up.

I was going to open signups this morning, but instead will do that tonight, after you all have had a chance to look at the tags and ask any questions.

I will also be posting a beta signup post, and a pinch-hitter sign up post, here in the comm, so don't forget about those.

Thanks for all your patience as we've worked out a few kinks, and thanks especially to aurilly for her work in whipping the tags into shape.

NFE 2014 Tagset

As promised, this is the post to clarify some of the nominations. We’re trying to arrive at a final tagset of freeform tags that are broad enough to be requestable(?) by multiple people for multiple characters/prompts, but specific enough that people are happy. The more tags we have, and the more specific they are, the harder matching will be. We also want to ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding what the tags mean; this will make people more comfortable offering them, and thus, more likely to match on them. Please note that some of the currently approved nominations may not end up in the final tagset, and, depending on the answers here, we may revise the wording of some nominations or consolidate them. We’ll put a glossary of any potentially confusing tags in the post that lets everyone know sign-ups are open. Please remember that your prompt will still be written out in the optional details; the tag doesn't need to encompass it.

We'll add to this post as more nominations are made.

Nominations We’re Asking to Revise
Bacchus/anyone: If you nominated this and have space in your character nomination slots, would you please delete this and nominate “Bacchus (Narnia)” in the character field instead? You can request Bacchus as a character and say in the details that you ship him with anyone your writer chooses. If you don’t have space, let us know and we’ll nominate him as a character for you.

Questions
These are questions for people who nominated certain tags. Depending on the answers here, we may revise the wording of the nominations, or consolidate them.

Tisroc: If you nominated this, did you have a specific Tisroc in mind? I’m assuming you mean the Tisroc from The Horse & His Boy, but just want to confirm that you weren’t thinking of a world-building story about Tisrocs in general.

Spare Oom: If you nominated this, what were you thinking a story for this tag should entail? It is what Mr. Tumnus calls England, but how would you characterize a 'Spare Oom' story?

The Missing Years (pre-crash): I’m assuming this means life in England after the Pevensies were expelled from Narnia but before the events of The Last Battle, but just wanted to be sure. Would this only mean a story set in England, or could it also mean a story between Rilian’s reign and Tirian’s? Could it also mean a story set in England that ignores The Last Battle and pretends everyone lived on in our world? What if we had a tag called “Post-Narnia Life In England”, and used this to encompass both 'the missing years' and an 'Everybody Lives' scenario that ignores the train crash? The optional details are where you could let your writer know your preference; I'm pretty sure someone offering the more meta tag would be open to either sub-period.

Telmar and Telmarine Era: Did the same person nominate these? What if we consolidated these into a single tag called “Telmarines” that encompasses a) what happened on the island of Telmar, b) the Narnian era over which the Telmarines ruled, c) stories about minor characters such as Glozelle and d) what happened to the Telmarines after Prince Caspian. That way, people can offer “Telmarines” and you can specify in the optional details which kind of story you’re looking for. Again, I think people offering this tag would be interested in most of these sub-options (but I might be wrong).

Alternate Universe: Am thinking of having two broad Alternate Universe tags: a) “Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence” b) “Alternate Universe – Different Setting” and leaving the details for the specifics. The first would allow people to request a specific change in canon and an exploration of how this would affect other stuff. The second would allow people to request a specific Alternate Universe setting (ex. Historical, coffee shop, etc.).

The Wood Between the Worlds: (in full disclosure, this is my nomination) I want this to be about the mechanics of world-hopping, or maybe stories where characters world-hop to places other than Narnia; it doesn’t necessarily have to involve the Wood or the rings. If anyone has a better idea of how to succinctly describe this, I’d really appreciate it.

’time wonkiness’/’the usual muddle about times’: Another one where suggestions are welcome for how to describe a story that plays with the concepts of weird time passage and (de)aging that happen when people travel between worlds.

THANK YOU!

Nominations update

Hi folks! We're waiting to hear back from AO3 on a tagging question, so for the time, the nominations are still open.

Also, I am thinking for clarity with the tags, we'll probably make it one fandom, as opposed to books/movies each as their own. You can use the optional details to clarify if you want bookverse or movieverse.

I think that's it for now. Any questions, let me know!

Hello everyone! Tag nominations are still open, but will be closing soon. aurilly has graciously volunteered to help me with the tags, and she'll be making a post with tags we have questions about, so we can try to clean some up. So please keep your eyes open for that, and if you haven't submitted your nominations, don't forget!
